In the wake of yet another damaging outburst to the press which saw Mr Markle, 74, compare the royal family to a “cult”, a source commented on the monarch’s likely reaction, which appears to be unimpressed.

The source told The Sunday Times: “Meghan doesn’t think it’s a fair game between her father and the media so she’s not going to engage in it or instruct anyone on her behalf to set the record straight.

“There have always been fears over his vulnerability. Now he’s got himself into a cycle of talking publicly. It’s very sad.”

The source went on to refer to the likely ways the Queen and her family are reacting over the circus.

They said Prince Charles “will be very sympathetic towards Meghan” but that the Queen “will be rolling her eyes” over the drama.

The remarks come after Mr Markle described the family his American daughter married in to as “cult-like”.

He told The Sun: “They are either like Scientologists or the Stepford family.

“If they hear anybody say anything they just lock the doors. They need to speak up!”

He added the royal family had been “in silence mode” since he began giving his shocking interviews to the press.

He said: “They are cult-like — like Scientology — because they are secretive.

“They close the door, pull the shades down and put their fingers in their ears so they don’t have to hear.”

He continued: “Maybe they have a secret handshake too!

“You cannot ask a question of them — as they won’t answer.”

The remarks came days before he announced he was “done” with the royal family and that he was “not mad” with either the Duchess of Sussex or her husband Prince Harry.

He told the Mail on Sunday: “I’m not mad at Harry. I’m not mad at Meghan. I love them. I wish them well.

“But as for the rest of it, f*** it. I’m done.”

Mr Markle, who resides in Mexico, has made several desperate attempts to reconnect with his daughter, 37, after it emerged he had posed for staged pictures in exchange for cash.

The pictures showed the former lighting director being fitted for a suit for the May 19 wedding and reading up on the royal family.

The scandal came out just days before the wedding and Mr Markle pulled out of walking Meghan down the aisle.

Prince Charles stepped in at the last minute while Mr Markle said he had suffered a heart attack.

In Meghan’s birthday card sent to her two weeks ago, Mr Markle wrote “I didn’t fake the heart attack”.
