Amid reports the Duchess of Sussex is expected to visit her mother Doria Ragland in California, Thomas Markle Jr said Meghan should reach out to her father before it is too late.
Meghan and her father have reportedly not spoken since before the Royal wedding in May, following Mr Markle’s series of staged paparazzi photos.
The 74-year-old retired Hollywood lighting director has been stirring up a storm recently, calling the Royal Family “cult like” and comparing them to the Church of Scientology.
Thomas Markle Jr nevertheless stated that Meghan should have handled her family drama differently and that perhaps now, because of her Royal status, she feels “above anyone else”.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: “I think Meghan should have handled this differently.
“I think Meghan should have handled this from the beginning and I think it got ignored and swept under the carpet for so long, it’s a shame where it’s ended up, especially between her and my father.
“She’s capable of doing anything, she’s just got to want to do it.
“If she wants to make amends, by all means, she can do that, but she’s got to want to do it.”
Despite Meghan’s current estrangement from her father, the two previously had a close relationship.
Mr Markle Jr claimed that Meghan changed after becoming a Hollywood celebrity and so did her relationship with her father.
He explained: “To see all this go on in the media, from their relationship being so close and so tight knit all her life to come to this, like she doesn’t want to deal with him for what reasons I don’t know.
“No father-daughter relationship should be like this.
“I feel for him because of how strong their relationship was and what it’s become now.
“That’s got to hurt anybody.”
The Duchess of Sussex’s brother added that her sister’s cold behaviour is nothing like “the Meghan that I knew”.
He claimed his half-sister changed after gaining fame on the hit TV series Suits, and is no longer the “caring” person he remembered.
In a damning conclusion, he said: “Maybe she feels she is above everybody, maybe even more now.
“But if she wasn’t with Prince Harry right now – even if she was still on Suits right now – she would have stopped what she was doing to go and visit him and make sure he’s ok.”
