Meghan Markle made her first royal solo speech on Thursday – just four months after tying the knot in May.
The Duchess of Sussex made the speech at the launch of a cookbook she created with the women of Hubb Community Kitchen in west London.
The Hubb kitchen helped to cook and feed the families and neighbours following the Grenfell Tower fire last year.
The duchess was joined by her mother, Doria Ragland, and husband Prince Harry.
The cookbook – Together – includes more than 50 recipes and if 50,000 copies of the cookbook are sold, the kitchen can remain open for seven days a week.
The duchess said working on the project was “a tremendous labour of love” and said she felt connected to the women in the kitchen shortly after moving to London.
Speaking from a marquee in Perk’s Field close to Kensington Palace, the duchess said: “I felt so immediately embraced by this kitchen – your warmth and kindness, and also to be able to be in this city and to see in this one small room how multicultural it was.”
She added: “On a personal level I feel so proud to live in a city that can have so much diversity – 12 countries represented in this one group of women.”
In comparison, Kate’s speech came almost a year after her wedding in April 2011.
The Duchess of Cambridge’s first speech was at the opening of the Treehouse hospice in March 2012.
The branch was one of her first patronages, the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
Meghan had Prince Harry and her mum by her side during her speech, however Kate had to fly solo to the address, as Prince William was away on a six-month military mission.
The most notable difference between the speeches is that Meghan’s is free-flowing and she does not rely on any notes throughout the address.
Whereas Kate, is prompted by notes, frequently pauses and regularly looks down at them during the address.
However the Duchess of Sussex is well versed in learning lines from her career as an actress.
A similarity of the two occasions, is that colour scheme the duchesses chose for their first speeches.
Meghan chose a three-quarter length cobalt blue coat from Canadian label Smythe, which mirrored the colour of Kate’s dress she wore back in 2012.
The Duchess of Sussex finished the look with a cashmere bodysuit from Tuxe and a pleated skirt from friend Misha Nonoo’s new Easy 8 collection.
Both duchesses chose a pair of black heels.
Together will be in bookshops from Thursday, but has been available to order online for a few days.
