The Duchess has not visited North America since leaving her hit TV series Suits and moving to England in November 2017 ahead of the announcement of her engagement to Prince Harry.
The Royal couple were last seen on the continent during their first public appearance at the Invictus Games in Toronto in September 2017.
Meghan is now expected to take a summer break to the US to visit friends and family following her whirlwind year, which has seen the former actress transition seamlessly into her Royal role.
Speaking to US Weekly, a source said: “She’s planning a personal, unofficial trip this summer to see family and friends.
“She’ll go to New York, then LA.”
US Weekly also reported Prince Harry and Meghan are planning to visit the US on an official tour in 2019, which may include destinations such as Washington DC, New York and California.
A Royal source commented on the anticipated tour, stating: “Meghan and Harry want to solidify ties between the UK and the US.
“They want to highlight and foster these relationships.”
Details of the tour are not yet finalised, and the in-demand couple are yet to decide on destinations and venues.
The Duchess has a number of close friends and family who still reside in the US, including A-list celebrities such as tennis star Serena Williams and film star Priyanka Chopra.
The stars reside in Florida and New York respectively, so Meghan’s visit may involve a whirlwind multi-destination roundtrip.
Meghan is also due to embark on a tour of Australia in October in order to attend the Invictus Games which are taking place in Sydney.
The sports competition was founded by Prince Harry and provides support for injured servicemen and women.
The couple will stop off at numerous destinations in Australia, along with visits to Tonga, Fiji and New Zealand.
Meghan and Harry are thought to be keen to increase their engagement with Commonwealth nations after the Prince took on the role of Commonwealth youth ambassador in April.
