Celebrity beauty guru Daniel Martin made an impression on Prince Harry with the impeccable choice of make-up on Meghan’s big day.
Mr Martin revealed the Duke of Sussex was so thrilled about his bride’s natural, simple and neutral-color based wedding look he kept paying him compliments.
He told InStyle: “After the ceremony Harry kept saying thank you.
“He was thanking me for making her look like herself.”
Explaining the inspiration behind Meghan’s classic bridal look, he added: “The last thing you want is to look at your wedding pictures and go, ‘remember when highlighting was the rage?’
“At the end of the day, you want to look like your best self.”
The make-up guru has been working with Meghan for many years, and knows very well her preferences.
He added: “I know exactly what Meghan does and doesn’t like.”
Mr Martin was one of the four people who helped Meghan to get ready on the morning of her wedding day.
He lived through those nervous moments with Doria Ragland, the mother of the bride, dress designer Clare Waight Keller, and hair stylist Serge Normant.
Mr Martin also shared a personal conversation he had with Meghan, just hours before the wedding.
As the pair had been friend for almost a decade, he admited to Meghan he didn’t know how he was supposed to address her after she married into royalty.
He told People: “I asked her that: ‘Do I bow to you? I don’t want to disrespect you, but I’ve known for almost ten years. What’s up?’
“She started laughing and she said, ‘I’m always going to be Meg. Meg’.”
But the New York-based make-up artist has pledged to be “respectful” of protocol next time he meets the now Duchess of Sussex.
Mr Martin, whose clientele include actresses Jessica Alba and Elisabeth Moss, had only praise for Meghan’s make-up skills as, he revealed, she often does her own make-up even ahead of public events despite having at hand the best artists.
The expert recently shared on Instagram a picture of the former Suits star and wrote: “I didn’t [do the make-up] but she’s so good herself, right!?”
And replying to a fan in a comment, he added: “She did her make-up herself for this.”
The Duchess has often said she doesn’t like covering her face with too many products but intead uses light-make up that let her freckles show.
In 2014, the former actress described her low-key routine to Allure, saying: “My routine is very simple — I call it the five-minute face.
“It’s just [YSL concealer] Touche Éclat, curled lashes, mascara, Chap Stick, and a little bit of blush.
“That is my favorite kind of look. If I’m going to amp it up for night, then I use MAC.
“Teddy eyeliner, which is a really beautiful brown that has some gold in it.”
