Meghan has dazzled at least a dozen royal engagements since marrying Prince Harry in Windsor on May 19 – including several with the Queen

But despite quickly adapting to many of the minutiae of royal dos and don’ts, the new Duchess of Sussex has found many of the rules confusing, an insider has claimed.

The source explained to People Magazine that these include “the fact that the Queen prefers women in dresses or skirts rather than trouser suits, and is often asking Harry why things have to be done in a certain way.”

“I think she finds it a little frustrating at times, but this is her new life, and she has to deal with it,” the source added.

Meghan might have impressed in her new role as the Duchess of Sussex, but she has also found it has brought with it a new set of challenges and things to remember.

The former Suits actress, whose ‘About’ page on the Royal Family’s official website highlights her feminist viewpoint, was caught in a political storm last week through comments she reportedly made at a garden party at the British ambassador’s residence in Dublin.

Irish Senator Catherine Noone of Fine Gael had tweeted that Meghan had said she was “pleased to see the result” of Ireland’s referendum to legalise abortion last month.

But the tweet was quickly deleted as members of the Royal Family are not supposed to offer opinion on matters of politics and should be politically neutral at all times.

The Senator had tweeted: “A pleasure to meet Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex at the British Ambassador’s Residence this evening.

“The Duchess and I had a chat about the recent referendum result.

“She watched with interest and was pleased to see the result.”

Crown historical consultant and Royal biographer Robert Lacey said: “That’s an example of her naïveté.

“Within the Royal Family they talk freely, and everyone knows the rules.

“She’s learning the hard way that you can’t trust anyone outside the narrow circle.”

Meghan has had Prince Harry by her side to help her get to grips with Royal protocol, as well as the Queen’s former assistant private secretary Samantha Cohen, who is in charge of showing Duchess the Royal ropes during an intense six-month crash-course.

But Meghan reached a huge milestone in her role as the newest member of the Royal Family last month when she carried out her first solo engagement with the Queen during a visit to Cheshire.

Mark Stewart, who was named Royal Photographer of the Year at The Picture Editors’ Guild Awards in 2013, said: “You can see Prince Harry’s hands-on approach, steering her, helping her.”
