Meghan has been making secret trips to a community mosque to cook with victims of the Grenfell Tower tragedy, it was revealed on Tuesday.

In her first solo royal endeavour the Duchess of Sussex put her name to a book of recipes created in the Hubb Community Kitchen, which is based close the tower in West London.

Meghan wrote the foreword to the book, “Together: Our Community Cookbook”, which has knocked JK Rowling off the number one spot on Amazon’s bestseller list – even though is not due to be released until tomorrow.

The Duchess of Sussex says in her foreword: “I immediately felt connected to this community kitchen; it is a place for women to laugh, grieve, cry and cook together.

“Melding cultural identities under a shared roof, it creates a space to feel a sense of normalcy – in its simplest form, the universal need to connect, nurture, and commune through food, through crisis or joy – something we can all relate to.

“Through this charitable endeavour, the proceeds will allow the kitchen to thrive and keep the global spirit of community alive.”

Lethal White, written by JK Rowling under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, Adam Kay’s This is Going to Hurt and Jamie Oliver’s Italy are down the charts as a result of the cookbook.

The former Suits star donned an apron to help fellow volunteers on her visits.

Meghan helped put the group in touch with a publisher and her Royal Foundation helped with legal and administrative issues.

There will be an official launch of the recipe book, which is her first solo project as a Duchess, at a reception at the palace on Thursday.

Hubb means “love” in Arabic, and the Hubb Community Kitchen came out of the terrible tragedy of Grenfell in 2017.

A fire broke out in the storey block of flats on June 14, 2017, killing 72 people.

It was the deadliest fire on domestic premises since World War 2.

The project was created to help the community connect, heal and look forward and to “convene through food”.

The women of the Hubb Community Kitchen wrote in the forward: “Our kitchen has always been a place of good food, love, support and friendship.

“We cook the recipes we’ve grown up with; there’s no stress, and the recipes always work because they have been made so many times – it’s proper comfort food.

“Swapping family recipes and moments of laughter gave us a sense of normality and home.

“We named ourselves the Hubb Community Kitchen to celebrate the thing that we all feel every time we meet – hubb means love in Arabic.”
