Before becoming a Duchess, Meghan had often been spotted wearing daring minidresses, flat shoes and heavy makeup.
These choices made her a fashion icon in the showbiz world, but Meghan had to give them up when she married Harry, as they are said to be frowned upon by the Queen.
According to OK! Magazine, the monarch considers “vulgar” any coloured nail polish.
Female members of the Royal Family are expected to wear nude-coloured polish, and Her Majesty has a personal preference towards a pale pink shade called “Ballet slippers”.
This left Meghan with little choice but to give up her nail polishes and after she announced the engagement with Prince Harry she hasn’t been spotted wearing her beloved dark shades of lacquer.
While the Duchess has been abiding religiously to this rule, other members of the family seem untouched by the monarch’s preference.
Bride-to-be Princess Eugenie has often worn colourful nail polishes.
And attending the Epsom Derby in 2012, a horse race taking place in Surrey, she even dared to sport a Union Jack manicure.
There isn’t an official rule explicitly forbidding members of the Royal Family to wear skirts and dresses of a certain length.
However, royals such as Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, and the Queen choose to wear a conservative over-the-knees length during royal outings.
Meghan has so far followed this untold rule, breaching it only once.
At last month’s charity performance of theatre-hit Hamilton in London, the Duchess stunned the public wearing a £327 Judith and Charles tuxedo, whose length was visibly above the knees.
But back in her Hollywood days, Meghan often opted for short dresses on the red carpet and at media events
Another untold fashion royal rule forbids from showing too much cleavage.
In the past, the Duchess had experimented with shapes and cuts, sporting on red carpets generous and bold V-necks.
Today, her style has evolved, and she is often seen wearing more formal and less revealing boat necks.
The Queen has also allegedly set a rule for shoes.
According to royal insiders, the monarch doesn’t like wedges, and nor Kate or Meghan has been seen wearing them since joining the Royal Family.
But the Duchess of Sussex also seems to have abandoned another type of footwear – flat shoes.
This would not be the dictated by the Queen, but would be the result of a calculated fashion choice.
According to celebrity photographer Glenn Gratton, the Duchess has been wearing mainly high heels since meeting Prince Harry because of their considerable height difference.
Meghan, 5ft 6in tall, is seven inches shorter than her husband, who stands at 6ft 1in.
Mr Gratton told the MailOnline: “Couples with a big height difference look slightly unbalanced in pictures, and often the smaller of the two ends up looking even smaller and is constantly looking up at their partner.
“Rod Stewart and his wife Penny have a large gap but this is minimised by Rod wearing Cuban heels and Penny not wearing super high heels.
“In the case of Harry and Meghan she will be wearing high heels to maximise her height and shorten the gap if possible.
“Careful use of wardrobe choices will be important for Harry and Meghan to make sure the couples’ height difference is minimised.”
