Piers Morgan said the Duchess of Sussex stopped answering his calls and messages after meeting Prince Harry at a London party.
Recounting their first meeting in a Kensington pub, Mr Morgan revealed Meghan “ghosted him” and never contacted him again despite months of intense chatting on social media.
Talking on The Late Late Show, the TV host said: “I put her in the cab and it turned out to be a cab that took her to a party where she met Prince Harry.
“The next night they had a solo dinner together and that was the last I ever heard from Meghan Markle. And I never heard from her again. She ghosted me. Meghan Markle ghosted me.”
Mr Morgan insisted he had “really liked” the future Duchess but he could not hide the evident disappointment that their friendship did not continue.
He continued: “I really liked her, I just think she is a slight social climber, I’m afraid. At her wedding, there was just one member of her family there, the rest couldn’t be risked, it was considered too dangerous.
“I can imagine her having dinner with Prince Harry and saying ‘oh, I know this great English guy – Irish as it turns out – he’s got a good friend of mine, just been to the pub with him.’ Harry is like ‘really? who’s that?’ ‘Pier Morgan!’ ‘What? Get him out of here.’
“But I didn’t really like being ghosted like that, it was a bit of a strange thing to do.”
After it was revealed Meghan’s father Thomas Markle would not be attending the Royal Wedding in May, Mr Morgan offered to escort her down the aisle.
He said: “I don’t think there have been any other family members that have been invited other than her mother.
“So we may now have the unprecedented thing of her mother walking her down the aisle. Or, I step into the breach, which I’m very happy to.”
The Duchess of Sussex ultimately walked the first part of the aisle by herself before Prince Charles met her to “welcome Ms Markle to the Royal Family,” and accompany her to meet Prince Harry.
The couple wed on May 18 and is expected to embark on their first official tour of Australia in October.
