The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the christening of their nephew Prince Louis yesterday before jetting off for the Republic of Ireland.
The couple were greeted by Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Leo Varadkar at Government Buildings in Dublin.
The trip is expected to attract a lot of public attention and a large crowd had gathered to cheer them as their convoy pulled up.
Mr Varadkar walked the couple across the courtyard to show them the foundation stone which was laid by Edward VII in 1904.
Once inside, the couple signed the visitor’s book.
Where will they visit in Ireland?
This evening, Meghan and Harry will attend a garden party at the British Ambassador’s residence at Glencairn.
Tomorrow they are due to meet Irish President Michael D Higgins at Aras an Uachtarain.
The Duke and Duchess will then visit Croke Park, the home of Ireland’s largest sporting organisation, the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA).
The couple will see the Book of Kells at Trinity College Dublin and will visit the city’s Irish Famine memorial.
They will also visit DogPatch Labs, a co-working space for technology start-ups, where they will meet young people taking part in workshops and female tech entrepreneurs.
The couple have said they hope to meet as many Irish people as possible, with Wednesday expected to be a good day for the Royals to mix with the public before they jet off tomorrow evening.
The visit was organised at the request of the British government.
At a particularly tumultuous time for the UK, the visit is seen as an attempt to maintain friendly relations with Ireland n the content of Brexit.
Mr Varadkar said: “I think with the United Kingdom leaving Europe, we are really going to need to focus a lot more on bilateral relationships.
“Visits of the president to the UK or members of the royal family to Ireland to help cement that very close relationship between Britain and Ireland.
“So we will be rolling out the red carpet and I think they will be extremely welcome.”
Kensington Palace said the couple were “looking forward to learning more about Ireland’s history and experiencing its rich culture, as well as meeting the people who are shaping the country’s future”.
This won’t be Meghan’s first trip to Dublin – she visited as a tourist five years ago when she was still an actress enjoying the perks of TV fame.
In 2013, she was picking up an award for her role in the US legal drama Suits.
While there, she participated in a Guinness pint-pulling competition and reportedly hung out with Ali Hewson, the wife of the U2 singer Bono.
In 2011, the Queen became the first British monarch to visit Ireland since the visit by her grandfather, George V, in 1911.
