A source close to Buckingham Palace claimed that not only was the general public kept in the dark regarding the Royal couple’s honeymoon plans, but so were the most senior Kensington Palace staff.
The source told The Sun: “No one knows where they went, only his brother and the Queen were told at first and a few immediate family members know now.
“The most senior members of the Royal household staff still have no idea where they went.
“They were completely frozen out of all plans and preparations.
“It was very important that the newlyweds had a private honeymoon where they could be alone together out of the public eye.”
The source added that only a handful of the most trusted protection officers were involved in the trip, and only those who had worked alongside the Prince for numerous years.
The insider described the honeymoon operation as “watertight”.
Concerns were nevertheless raised that the secret of Meghan and Harry’s honeymoon may be leaked to an “inner circle of staff” following their trip.
However the source said: “That hasn’t been the case.
“It is has been one of the most tightly guarded secrets in the Palace for years and is mainly due to the fact that news of them dating was leaked.”
The news comes as the Duchess of Sussex is said to have flown to Toronto, where she used to live, on an Air Canada flight.
According to the Royal news website Royal Central, Kensington Palace sent a letter to Air Canada asking that no one takes Meghan’s picture or approaches her on the flight.
It is Meghan’s first foreign trip without her husband since the pair tied the knot on May 19.
It comes after the Duchess of Sussex’s already strained relationship with her father took another nosedive after his most recent scathing interview with the British press.
Speaking to The Sun, Thomas Markle compared the British Royal Family to Scientologists and said they are “cult-like”.
