Kate Beckinsale has shared two emotional photographs from hospital after suffering a ruptured ovarian cyst.
“Turns out a ruptured ovarian cyst really hurts and morphine makes me cry,” the 45-year-old Underworld star wrote on Instagram.
“So thankful to everyone who looked after me #wobbly.”
Just days ago, Beckinsale appeared well while hosting the LA Art Show, raising money for the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Since sharing the news, the British actor has received an outpouring of support from wellwishers, including hairstylist Pete Savic who worked with the star at the event.
“When did this happen?” Savic asked in the comments. “I just saw you. I am so very sorry you have to go through that.”
Sarah Silverman, Isla Fisher, Courtney Love and Natalie Imbruglia also shared their concern.
“Sending love,” wrote Love, while Fisher sympathised, “Are you OK? Sending you so much love.”
One fan commented, “But first let me take a selfie,” but Beckinsale was quick to jump to her own defence.
“It’s actually not a selfie. My mum took it. In fact I would not have posted it if we had not noticed someone in a car taking a photo of me leaving the hospital in a wheelchair.”
Not wanting the paparazzi to get the exclusive, Beckinsale shared the two photographs on her Instagram.
“I have Instagram largely to have my own honest narrative and not have to always be ambushed by stories that come out that are invented. I’d prefer to say what happened then endure speculation and so I chose to share.
“It’s not normal to be photographed in vulnerable situations by people you don’t know.”
Beckinsale ended the comment by thanking everyone for their support.
“Thank you so much to everyone who has wished me well and lots of love to all the girls here who have been through similar or worse. Love to all x.”
