Harry’s father is said to have a “soft spot” for the Duchess of Sussex and was “thrilled” when she and his youngest son spent a week with him at the Castle of Mey, former home of the Queen Mother, for their summer holidays.

Charles is forging a “lovely relationship” with Meghan Markle and is now “closer than ever” with his son.

Prince Charles is said to have grown closer to Meghan, 37, since he walked the duchess down the aisle in Windsor when her father Thomas Markle dropped out at last minute.

He is said to have been “very supportive” of the American royal as the Markle family continue to slate her in explosive interviews with the media.

A source told Vanity Fair: “The wedding was a real turning point.

“Charles showed so much love towards Harry and Meghan, and I think Harry will be eternally grateful to his papa for stepping in and giving Meghan’s hand in marriage. The bond between them is very close.”

The source said the couple spent a week with Prince Charles this summer at the Castle of Mey, which is located on Scotland’s north coast.

The grounds of the castle have a walled garden and many acres of picturesque parkland.

The trio are said to have spent the evenings reading, walking dogs, and talking.

The family member said: “Charles has been very supportive of Meghan and everything she is going through with her own father.

“He’s got a real soft spot for her and thinks she’s the best thing to have happened to Harry.”

It comes after it emerged Prince Charles has given his daughter-in-law an unusual nickname which highlights her “tough” and “unbending” nature.

The Prince of Wales blessed the Duchess of Sussex with the nickname “Tungsten”, which is one of the hardest metals known to man.

A source close to Buckingham Palace revealed while it might not seem like the most complimentary of nicknames, Prince Charles appreciates Meghan for being a good influence on her husband Prince Harry.

The Royal expert told the Mail on Sunday: “Prince Charles admires Meghan for her strength and the backbone she gives Harry, who needs a tungsten-type figure in his life as he can be a bit of a softy.

“It’s become a term of endearment.”

The castle was acquired by The Queen Mother in 1952, shortly after the death of her husband King George VI.
