Gareth Southgate’s squad are gearing up for England’s first World Cup semi-final since 1990 tonight.
And Prince William, who is president of the Football Association, has led the charge as fans across the nation urge the Three Lions to bring football home.
William has led messages of celebration after each of England’s World Cup matches with the future king taking to Twitter to congratulate the squad.
Due to heightened tensions between the UK and Russia, Prince William has been banned by officials from attending the World Cup.
But Prince William, who will be watching the game from home tonight, was undeterred as he issued a rallying cry.
The Duke of Cambridge said: “A new generation is enjoying the magic of this World Cup run.
“The whole country is right behind you tonight. Come on England – it’s coming home!”
Prince William’s royal rallying cry comes as his younger brother Prince Harry backed England.
Asked by reporters if football is coming home, Prince Harry quipped “most definitely”.
Prince Harry’s tone was more positive than at a garden party at the British ambassador’s residence in Dublin on Tuesday night when he told Irish rugby legend Brian O’Driscoll he was not as confident as everyone else and wanted to avoid jinxing the result.
Prime Minister Theresa May has wished the England team “all the very best of luck” in their World Cup semi-final against Croatia on Wednesday.
Arriving at the Nato summit in Brussels, Mrs May said: “Good luck to the team tonight. I met the Croatian prime minister yesterday and we exchanged football shirts.
“Gareth Southgate and the boys have done a fantastic job and I’m sure that they are going to go on to do well. I just wish them all the very best of luck tonight.”
