The countess attended her son Prince Nikolai’s graduation ceremony with her ex, Nikolai’s father, and his wife Princess Marie when the two women appeared to clash.
The princess and her stepson Nikolai were posing for a photo alongside his dad when seconds later, Nikoli’s mother raced to be in the picture, pushing her rival’s arm off her son.
The French-born royal looked visibly shocked but managed to compose herself before a swarm of paparazzi captured the image.
The final picture instead showed the princess looking towards her husband’s ex-wife, who smiled on oblivious as she wrapped her arm around her son.
But a video of the incident was uploaded onto Danish media outlet Se og Hor.
Addressing the footage, Alexandra’s lawyer Bjarke Vejby said the story was a complete “fabrication” and “deeply offensive”.
But Se og Hor’s editor-in-chief Niels Pinborg hit back and called the video “embarrassing”.
He said: “I think you can see what happened in the footage.
“The countess may have a different opinion to ours, but that’s fine.”
Before the event, the countess and princess were pictured hugging one another and have even appeared in portraits together promoting talk of a good relationship together.
In May, the countess also attended an invite to the 50th birthday party of her ex-husband’s brother, Crown Prince Frederik, at the palace, one of the many royal events she continues to attend despite the breakdown of her marriage.
Prince Joachim was married Countess Alexandra from 1995 to 2005 after meeting at a party in Hong Kong, where she was born and raised.
After a whirlwind romance, the prince proposed with a diamond ruby ring.
In August 1999, they welcomed their first son Prince Nikolai who was followed by Prince Felix three years later.
In 2008, the prince wed Princess Marie.
The couple have two children, Princess Athena, six, and Prince Henrik, nine.
