The American beauty opted for a dark dress as she waved to royal fans at Burlington House in a major art exhibition in central London without the Duke of Sussex.

The Duchess of Sussex joined a flurry of guests at the opening of Oceana, a show put on by the Royal Academy of the Arts that marked Captain James Cook’s first voyage to the Pacific and will bring together 200 public and private works that will no doubt dazzle the duchess.

Featuring works from nations of the Commonwealth, the exhibition will no-doubt give the duchess an education on the subject as she prepares a huge tour of new Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Australia.

The event will see Meghan meet the exhibition’s curators, artists and descendants linked to the works on display.

The 37-year-old’s first solo engagement as a member of the royal family came less than 24 hours after her estranged half-sister Samantha Markle, 53, caused a stir on social media by vowing the fly to the UK to confront Meghan over their father Thomas Snr’s poor health.

Ms Markle’s PR team have sensationally claimed on Twitter that while on a trip to Italy from her native Florida, she was not quite ready to return back to the US and vowed to come to London to see her younger half sibling.

Ms Markle’s PR manager Rob Cooper said: “Samantha Markle is coming to the UK. After making numerous attempts in private to arrange a one on one meeting with The Duchess of Sussex to discuss their 74-year-old father’s health, Kensington Palace have refused to respond.

“I fear Meghan may not be made aware of these discreet, attempts and therefore making this public is the only option we have left. I currently have Samantha in Europe with just one short flight away.”

He added: “This DOESN’T need to be public, we would prefer to keep this private. Samantha is coming to the UK this week, like it or not.”

This followed Ms Markle’s bizarre rant on Prince Harry’s 34th birthday in which she blasted him over claims he failed to wish his father-in-law a happy birthday last month.

She said: “Happy Birthday Harry! As you ‘Mack down’ on your birthday cake, think about the birthday wishes you never extended to your FATHER-IN-LAW.”

In a separate post, she also referred to Meghan as a “duch**”.

She said: “The DUCHA** should be humane to our father who has given her everything and this media crap can stop!

“He was the one who was always there for her. Fake waves and smiles can stop. The duchA** can bow to the daddy.”

Oceania at the Royal Academy of Arts will open to the public from September 29 to December 10.
