The British Royal Family is undoubtedly the most famous family in the world.

But that hasn’t stopped them from being as prone to mistakes like everyone else, making embarrassing slips ups and awkward moments in the glare of the public eye from time to time.

Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge’s skirt blew up while she laid a wreath to honour Indian soldiers who fought in World War 1 in New Delhi in 2016 due to windy conditions on the day.

And in 2013, the Duchess got her heel caught in a grate as she handed out St Patrick’s Day shamrocks to Irish Guards.

With her four-inch heels stuck in the grate, she coolly leaned against William as she gracefully freed her footwear and continued on as if nothing had happened.

But newbie royal Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has been learning the ropes of protocol following her marriage to Prince Harry in May this year.

There are many tricky pieces of protocol, such as learning when to eat dinner in the presence of the Queen – and what protocol to follow when travelling to engagements.

She had trouble with getting in and out of cars when she accompanied her mother-in-law to her first official royal outing in Cheshire in July.

When the pair left Cheshire town hall, Meghan hesitated as she got in the car, unsure whether she or the Queen should get in first.

Meghan turned to the Queen and asked: “What’s your preference?” to which Her Majesty, who has a good relationship with the new duchess, replied: “You go first.”

There was also the time Meghan, who was attending the wedding of Charlie van Straubenzee and Daisy Jenks in August this year, had a slight fashion malfunction.

She was captured by a photographer flashing a small part of her bra after the top of her dress became unbuttoned – an innocent mistake but one that solidified the Duchess of Sussex as a down-to-earth member of the monarchy.

But, after 66 years on the throne, the Queen herself has been no stranger to awkward moments through her countless public appearances and tours of the world.

In June this year, the Queen could hardly contain her excitement when she met David Beckham at the Queen’s Young Leaders Programme.

It wasn’t the first time they had met – but on this occasion, a seemingly giddy Queen seemed extremely happy to meet the legendary footballer.

However, that was nothing compared to her visit to the Royal Windsor Horse Show in 2014, where Elizabeth II was captured picking her nose in public.

At least her husband, Prince Phillip, was also caught doing the same thing.
