The Duchess of York sought help from Greek-born Madame Vasso as she became embroiled in a secret affair with the man that would eventually break up her marriage for good – former oil tycoon John Bryan.
Madame Vasso even warned Sarah against Mr Bryan before pictures emerged of the redhead receiving a toe-sucking from the oil tycoon, which paved the way for her exit from the Royal Family in 1992.
Speaking in a recently unearthed 1997 clip of documentary ‘Fergie: Downfall of the Duchess’, royal expert David Leigh said both Sarah and Princess Diana approached psychics in the hope there would be a “light at the end of the tunnel” in their unhappy marriages.
Mr Leigh, co-author of ‘The Duchess of York Uncensored’, said: “Both were trapped in unhappy marriages, desperate to see what the future had in store for them and the belief by speaking and consulting with people who had psychic abilities that they would know how it would turn out and whether there was a light at the end of a the tunnel.
“They both had very different problems with their husbands, but both were unhappy and wondered whether things were going to work out for the best.”
But Sarah Ferguson, known worldwide as Fergie, didn’t always follow Madame Vasso’s advice.
In 1992 the Duke and Duchess of York finally announced their separation after reportedly spending a lot of time apart while Prince Andrew was on royal duties.
Just months later the photographs emerged of the Duchess sunbathing topless and frolicking with Mr Bryan in St Tropez.
The Duchess was staying at Balmoral when the shocking images were published and the Windsors came across them in the morning newspapers at the breakfast table.
Her relationship with her in-laws, particularly the Duke of Edinburgh, was left in tatters.
Mr Leigh said: “Vasso told Fergie a thousand times, that man will bring you nothing but bad news.
“Get rid of him, I don’t like him, I don’t trust him and Fergie didn’t listen to Vasso, perhaps if she did, she wouldn’t have been in the mess that she was in.
“But Vasso met John Bryan on a number of occasions and even went to his flat on a number of occasions when he asked hr for readings and didn’t trust him and believed he was only out for what he could get for himself.”
Sarah and Prince Andrew, who have two daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, divorced in 1996.
She has not been an official member of the Royal Family in 20 years but still shares a residence with her ex-husband.
However, Prince Philip has never forgiven the Duchess of York and it is alleged he will struggle to be in the same room as his ex-daughter-in-law at Princess Eugenie’s upcoming Royal Wedding in October.
