Prince Charles, 69, and his sons William, 36, and Harry, 33, have been through a lot as a family.

Most notably, the loss of the boys’ beloved mother, Princess Diana, when they were just 15 and 12.

But before the tragedy, Prince Charles had a highly-publicised difficult relationship with Diana, punctuated with allegations of infidelity on both sides.

The boys have never uttered a bad word against their father, but a source, said to be well-known in the inner folds of royal society, has told the Daily Beast they “just don’t get on.”

The source said: “They are very different people and they just don’t get on. It’s as simple as that.

“They rarely see each other outside of official business.”

The source added Charles “hates” William and Harry’s public “emoting,” in reference to an interview the boys gave last year to mark the 20-year anniversary of their mother’s death.

The rare interview was vulnerable and emotional, and was intended to shine a light on mental health and the importance of asking for help.

Clarence House rarely comments on private matters, but when asked about the claims, Clarence House told Express.co.uk the claims are “complete fiction.”

Over the years William and Harry have generally come out in praise of their dad.

During the 2017 interview, both William and Harry spoke about the challenges they faced when Diana died, and the terrible walk behind her coffin in front of the eyes of the world.

Harry said: “One of the hardest things for a parent to have to do is to tell your children that your other parent has died.

“How you deal with that I don’t know.

“But, you know, he was there for us.

“He was the one out of two left and he tried to do his best and to make sure that we were protected and looked after.

“But, you know, he was going through the same grieving process as well.”

When Harry got married to Meghan Markle this year, Prince Charles stepped in to walk her down the aisle after her own father dropped out amid health problems.

Royal biographer Penny Junor said last year that as children, the boys often spent alone time with their father at Broadfield, Prince Charles’s farm, and Balmoral, the Royal Family’s estate in Scotland.

In a 2015 documentary with Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, better known as Ant and Dec, Prince William said his father had a wicked sense of humour, finding it funny “when things go wrong” such as during school plays.

During the interview, the boys call their dad “incredibly hardworking.”

In May, Harry gave a touching speech to mark his dad’s birthday celebration.

He said: Who has not come away from a meeting with my father, their head spinning with a dozen new ideas which he wants to get underway urgently, having met a group of people or read something that has fired his imagination and started the flow of ideas.

“His enthusiasm and energy are truly infectious; it has certainly inspired William and I to get involved in issues we care passionately about and to do whatever we can to make a difference.

“In fact, many of the issues William and I now work on are subjects we were introduced to by our father growing up.”
