The Duke of York will make the trip later this month for three days, during which he will meet Mr Orban, the right-wing nationalist leader who returned to office in April.

Prince Andrew, 58, will also meet Hungary’s president Janos Ader and foreign affairs minister Peter Szijjarto during his visit.

The focus of his trip will be on events promoting education, science, technology and engineering.

Mr Orban retained the office of prime minister this year on the back of an anti-immigration message which won him the older vote.

While he is one of the most eurosceptic politicians in Europe, he had advised against Brexit.

He urged Britons to vote to remain in the 2016 Brexit referendum.

At the time, government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs said: “Although we have earned accusations of being anti-EU from many sides on numerous occasions, this is a testament to the fact that Hungary is committed to the European Union.”

Prince Andrew will be shown Hungary’s latest efforts to promote diversity and equal opportunities with a visit to the Suhanj Training Centre, Hungary’s first integrated fitness centre for disabled and able bodied people.

Towards the end of his visit he will be introduced to the science and tech start-up community when he attends the final of Hungary’s first Pitch@Palace project, of which he is the founder.

The Royal Family have carried out a series of “Brexit diplomacy” missions in the wake of the EU referendum at the request of the UK Government.

This trend was first observed in July last year when the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William took their children Prince George and Princess Charlotte on a five-day family tour of Poland.

Commentators called the visit an example of ‘Brexit diplomacy’ aimed to charm Europe.

A Kensington Palace spokesman said at the time: “The Duke and Duchess are very much looking forward to this tour and are delighted with the exciting and varied programme that has been put together for it.
