Diana’s legacy continues to live on through her children, Prince William and Prince Harry, and as the anniversary of death nears Express.co.uk remembers Diana’s last summer.
Diana suffered fatal injuries in a car crash at 12.22am on Sunday August 31 1997 in the Alma underpass near the Seine river, Paris.
The month before her passing, the Princess was pictured swimming in the glistening blue waters of Saint Tropez in July 1997.
Ever the doting mother Diana was joined by Prince William and Prince Harry on what would be their final family holiday together before her untimely death.
She was visiting Dodi Al-Fayed, the son of Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed, in the family’s 30-bedroom villa, Castle St. Therese.
She is said to have grown close to Dodi here and stayed in the villa several times throughout the summer.
Wonderful photos show Diana diving into the water and appearing jubilant as she takes a dip in her swimwear.
The happy holiday images stand in stark contrast to the tragedy that would unfold a month later on August 31, when she and Dodi died in the car crash.
The photographs are a reminder of the fun-loving Princess’ love for the water, which she had adored since she was a small child swimming in her family’s pool at Althorp estate.
On the night of the Princess of Wales and Dodi Al-Fayed, the couple were photographed together laughing and smiling in what would be their final few hours.
Pictures shows Mr Fayed embracing the Princess around the waist as they stood in the lobby of their hotel preparing to make a dash for the black Mercedes that would eventually crash and kill them both.
