The official Royal website recently revealed Queen Elizabeth is passionate about Scottish country dancing.

According to the site, the 92-year-old Royal hosts dances for neighbours, Castle staff and members of the community every year at Balmoral castle.

A video from 1990 has emerged showing the Queen dancing the Eightsome Reel, a Scottish country dance, with Prince Philip, Princess Anne, Prince Charles and the Queen mother at Balmoral.

The Queen’s annual dancing events are known as Ghillies Balls.

The Official Royal website reads: “The Queen takes a keen and highly knowledgeable interest in horses.

“The Queen also enjoys walking in the countryside and spending time with her dogs.

“A lesser known interest is Scottish country dancing.

“Each year during her stay at Balmoral Castle, The Queen gives dances known as Ghillies’ Balls, for neighbours, estate and Castle staff and members of the local community.”

The monarch has been reported to be a “fantastic dancer”, as Lady Elizabeth Arson praised her for her “great rhythm in the BBC documentary Our Queen: 90 Musical Years.

Lady Elizabeth Anson said: “The Queen loves the theatre and musicals like Showboat, Oklahoma! and Annie Get Your Gun.

“These were the tunes that remained in one’s head and were very danceable to.

“The Queen is a fantastic dancer. She’s got great rhythm.”

She also appears to be a huge fan of popular 1970s pop group ABBA, after their riveting track, Dancing Queen, was played by the Band of the Royal Logistic Corps during the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace last July.

BBC Radio DJ Chris Evans confirmed the Queen’s love for the ABBA track, saying that she told guests how much she enjoyed the song during a dinner event at Windsor Castle.
