The Princess of Wales instilled in Prince William and Prince Harry the importance of compassion and humility by leading them by example, kept them out of the public eye as best she could, and tried to keep their undeniably unusual upbringing as normal as possible.
Late last year Princes William and Harry spoke publicly about their mother. They’ve shared their favourite memories of the late royal and even discussed her tragic death.
Prince William said he regularly talks to his children about his mother and there are photos of “granny Diana” dotted around their house.
The Duke said: “It’s important they know who she was and that she existed.”
Prince Harry also shared how Diana use to dress him his elder sibling in matching outfits.
He said: “One thing I would love to ask her now because I genuinely think that she got satisfaction out of dressing myself and William up in the most bizarre outfits, normally matching.
“It was weird shorts and you know like, little sort of shiny shoes with the old clip on. Looking back at the photos it just makes me laugh. I just think, ‘How could you do that to us?’
The younger Prince said his mother would “sneak us” into the cinema and drive them through country lanes with the roof down.
He said she tried to keep them as “normal” as she could in Kensington Palace where they grew up.
“My mother cherished the moments of privacy and being a mother, rather than the Princess of Wales”.
