The Duchess of Sussex gave a long interview to the team behind the ITV documentary Queen of the World, which focuses on the monarch’s role as head of the Commonwealth and how it has grown during her reign.

Although her father Thomas Markle has often given interviews to the press about his troubled relationship with Meghan, the Duchess has only spoken to media with Prince Harry when the pair got engaged last year.

Last September before Harry proposed, Meghan gave an interview to Vanity Fair magazine where she opened up about her life.

The documentary, Queen of the World, which was filmed by Oxford Films, is due to be broadcast on ITV next month and will cover the monarch’s role in the globe.

The series interviews the Queen and her staff to give viewers an insight into her life and the Commonwealth.

Prince Charles, Prince William, Princess Anne and the Countess of Wessex have also given interviews for the high-profile series, which will feature footage from the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh’s private film archives.

Controller of Factual at ITV, Jo Clinton-Davis, said: “The Queen is a unique figure on the world stage, with a huge depth of experience having met more global leaders than any previous British monarch and serving longer than all of them.

“This film is a rare opportunity to see Her Majesty up close and behind the scenes in this role, which means so much to her and has been so significant for Britain and the Commonwealth.”

The series will contain exclusive footage of the monarch interacting with global leaders, as well as the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Its executive producer Nicolas Kent said: “The Queen is the most well-travelled monarch in history and it’s been fascinating to see how she has passed on her experience to the younger generations of the royal family.

“With the Duke and Duchess of Sussex about to embark on their first Commonwealth Tour to Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific exactly 65 years after the Queen’s first Commonwealth Tour, this series could not be more timely.”

Earlier this week, the royal newlyweds attended a special West End performance of the musical Hamilton to raise funds for the charity, Sentebale.
