The 28-year-old royal will marry Jack Brooksbank in October in a wedding in the same chapel in Windsor where Prince Harry tied the know with Meghan Markle in May.
Like the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Princess Eugenie and Mr Brooksbank will take a carriage procession from the chapel through Windsor High Street and the grounds of Windsor Castle.
The security bill for the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson comes under a “public safety” expense so will be picked up by the taxpayer.
In an interview with Sky News, Mr Williamson said: “There is no need to have such glamorous events.
“Prince Andrew – who is fabulously wealthy with an estimated worth of £65m – should foot the bill himself.”
Mr Williamson said that the royals should not expect the public to pick up the bill and it was “perfectly adequate” for them to have less lavish ceremonies.
The MP dubbed the costs as “completely unacceptable”, particularly given the government’s funding cuts on police numbers.
He said: “Who’s heard of Princess Eugenie anyway? She carries no royal functions, no useful purpose to the public sphere and yet we’re having to spend this kind of money.”
The money will be used to pay for police officers and their overtime rates as the open-top procession route will need checking in advance.
Princess Eugenie’s wedding is expected to have a string of A list celebrities attending, which may include the Beckhams, George Clooney, Eddie Redmayne and Cindy Crawford.
Emma Dent Coad, Labour MP for Kensington, said: “In these times of heightened security risks, it is irresponsible for a minor member of the Royal family to have a high-profile, very public wedding.
“This may be the time to review the role and cost of minor Royals.”
Drones are expected to be banned from flying over Windsor Castle throughout the marriage celebrations and the police officers will be dispersed throughout the town.
