Meghan wrote about her fondness for handwritten notes in a blog post on her now defunct bog The Tig.

She said: “What trumps all is my love of writing (and receiving) a handwritten note.

“I absolutely relish it.

“I know my mailman’s name, I race to the door when the mail comes (usually just fliers or bills) but I always hold out hope there will be a letter.

“A sweet letter.

“And then I will have the tactile experience of un-creasing the paper, reciting the words and holding someone’s thoughts in my hands.”

The Mirror reports that according to royal author Andrew Morton Princess Diana was also an enthusiast for handwritten notes and used to send out large numbers of thank you cards after major occasions.

He claims that after her wedding to Prince Charles in 1981 Diana: “Sat down to answer many of the 47,000 letters of congratulation and 10,000 gifts which the wedding generated.”

Letters written by Princess Diana are now extremely valuable.

In 2017 a batch collected by an ex-Buckingham Palace steward was sold at auction for £15,100.

One endearing letter stated that young Prince William had “swamped” his baby brother, Prince Harry, with “an endless supply of hugs and kisses.”

Another of the letters referenced a time Prince Harry was naughty at school.

Meghan used to use her blog The Tig to write about travel, fashion and her personal life experiences.

She also used it to conduct interviews with celebrities like tennis star Serena Williams and Indian actress Priyanka Chopra.

Almost all of the blog’s content was deleted shortly before Prince Harry and Ms Markle went public about their relationship in 2017.
