Prince George started his first day at Thomas’s Battersea last year, looking a little apprehensive as he greeted the head of the lower school, Helen Haslem.

Well-wishers gathered outside the school to wish the young prince the best of luck for his first day.

He was taken to his first day of school by his dad the Duke of Cambridge and was accompanied by accredited members of the press.

They photographed the young prince arriving at the private prep school in Battersea High School, London.

The school costs £17,604 a year in south-west London.

The Duchess of Cambridge missed the milestone moment of taking her first-born to his first day of school last year.

At the time, she was suffering from severe morning sickness due to her pregnancy with Prince Louis.

However this year, the duchess will be accompanying her son to his first day of Year 1.

She dropped George off at school just one day after giving birth to his younger brother, Louis, in April.

One parent told the Daily Mail: “No one really gives Kate a second glance when she does the school drop-off.

“We have a Victoria’s Secret model during the school run, too, and the dads are far more interested in her!”

George will be reunited with his cousin Maud, the five-year-old daughter of Lord and Lady Frederick Windsor.

And the little prince is not expected to garner the media attention he did last year, so his first day will not be as daunting or scary this time round.

George’s first day at Thomas’s Battersea to start the Michaelmas (autumn) term is Thursday, September 6.

He will break up for the Christmas break on Thursday, December 13.

The school educates 560 boys and girls between the ages of four and 13.

Headmaster Simon O’Malley says on these school’s website: “We hope that our pupils will leave this school with a strong sense of social responsibility, set on a path to become net contributors to society and to flourish as conscientious and caring citizens of the world.”

Thomas’s Battersea prides itself on being a school with a key set of values – “kindness”, “respect”, “honesty” and “courtesy” among some of the values set out on the website.
