The writer who published Diana Princess of Wales’ biography, which revealed huge insights into her failed marriage to Prince Charles, said the much-loved royal icon relished her chance to tell her story.

Royal biographer Andrew Morton conducted secret interviews with the Princess of Wales Diana for his book, Diana: Her True Story, which was published in 1992.

Mr Morton says he helped the Princess to come in the candid book, saying: “It explained Diana’s feelings, her sense of isolation, her sense of being a prisoner.

“Once that leaked into the popular imagination and people got to understand who she was as a three-dimensional character, then people responded to her.

“And you could see that people wanted the Diana monarchy, one that was more approachable, a bit looser.

“A little bit more empathetic to their own issues and problems.”

The explosive book was released the same year she separated from Prince Charles, with the couple eventually finalising their divorce in 1996.

At the time of the book’s original publication, no one knew that Diana herself had provided the book’s source material.

But following her death in 1997, Mr Morton revealed in public that Diana herself was his guarded source.

Mr Norton has also published biographies from other famous names including Diana’s son, Prince William and Wallis Simpson.

Meghan: A Hollywood Princess is the title of his latest book focusing on the life of the newest addition to the British Monarchy.

Despite Princess Diana’s life changed dramatically after she joined the Royal Family, she was able to quickly adapt to the new role.

The Princess quickly outshone Prince Charles after their marriage, becoming one of Britain’s most-loved royals and the “People’s Princess”.

It sparked jealousy from her then-husband Charles, an insider claimed.

Just within a few months, the Princess conquered the hearts of the public and became one of the most photographed and discussed people in the world.

According to Princess Diana herself, her father-in-law Prince Philip even suggested the possibility Charles would cheat on her with Camilla Parker-Bowles, the now Duchess of Cornwall.
