The younger daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York, has three names – Eugenie Victoria Helena.

And the names were chosen by her parents after past royals.

When Princess Eugenie’s first name was announced it came as a surprise to the public, with bookmakers William Hill saying they had not taken any bets for the choice.

It comes from Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg, the granddaughter of Queen Victoria who went on to become Queen of Spain.

The name Eugenie means “nobility” in Greek.

Princess Eugenie – who is ninth in the line of succession – has spoken in the past about how some people find her name difficult to pronounce.

She said: “Whenever we used to meet foreign people who were struggling with it, my mum and I would help them by saying ‘It’s like use your knees’.

“But whatever. I am now used to every pronunciation.”

The Princess’s middle names were inspired by Victorian royalty.

Princess Eugenie’s first middle name is after Queen Victoria, who reigned for 63 years. The name means “victory” in Latin.

Her second middle name comes from Princess Helena, Queen Victoria’s third daughter.

In Greek Helena means “light” or “bright”.

The Princess’s name could change after her upcoming wedding to Jack Brooksbank.

Princess Eugenie – who works at an art gallery – may keep her title following the wedding. She could also add her husband’s surname to the end of it.

The couple’s wedding is set for October 12 in St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, the same venue that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got married earlier this year.
