Her half-sister Samantha appeared to acknowledge there might be an attempt to build bridges, saying: “If she is truly a humanitarian then she will and, if not, she won’t.

“The ball is in her court to prove it. Actions speak louder than words.”

There is growing optimism that Meghan, who celebrated her 37th birthday at the weekend, is willing to break the deadlock to heal the strained relationship.

Mr Markle’s outbursts and comments about the Royal Family have sparked controversy since Prince Harry married Meghan in May.

Thomas has been beset by health problems and is believed to have suffered a heart attack after he staged paparazzi pictures a week before her wedding, in which he was seen being measured for a suit.

He pulled out of the Royal Wedding in Windsor citing ill health leaving Prince Charles to walk his daughter-in-law down the aisle.

A source said: “The possibility of a reunion has been discussed and Meghan looks set to incorporate it into her trip.

“Thomas is apparently keeping two dates free at the end of the month with a view to travelling from his home in Mexico to Los Angeles to meet his daughter.

“The location and exact dates will be top secret for both their sakes. It is a very sensitive time for them but the intent seems to be to heal the rift.”

The rumour of a reunion comes as relations between Meghan and Samantha, 53, remain strained.

She recently claimed the former Suits actress would not receive any cards, calls or text messages from relatives, including her father, on her birthday after accusing Meghan of ignoring Thomas on his birthday last month.

Shortly after her wedding Thomas gave an interview to Good Morning Britain in which he appeared to break royal protocol by revealing private details of a phone call with Harry.

He hinted at the Prince’s political leanings claiming he thought Donald Trump should be “given a chance” and also revealed how Meghan was desperate to start a family, saying: “There’s got to be a child soon.”

Meghan spent her birthday at the society wedding of Charlie van Straubenzee, one of Harry’s closest friends, and Daisy Jenks in Frensham, Surrey, on Saturday.
