The Queen’s official Instagram page – the Royal Family’s account – left a heartfelt message to honour Meghan’s 37th birthday, along with a sweet photo of both Meghan and the Queen during their first official event together in Chester, showing how the pair shared a special bond.
The post read: “Happy Birthday to HRH The Duchess of Sussex! #HappyBirthdayHRH.”
It was accompanied by a picture showing Meghan and the Queen beaming as they watched a performance by children from the Andrew Curphey Theatre Company.
Thousands of royal fans also took the opportunity to wish Meghan a happy birthday, and one said: “Happy birthday Meghan! We love you so much.
Another wrote: “Happy birthday beauty, by watching you live you taught me a lot. Continue to be inspirational. Love you so much.”
For her very first birthday as a member of the Royal Family, the Duchess of Sussex spent her day in Surrey for Charlie van Straubenzee’s wedding – one of Prince Harry’s closest friends.
Harry performed best man duties for the ceremony, which took place in the village of Frensham, Surrey.
For the event, Meghan donned a stunning navy shirt and colour-blocked dress by Canadian fashion label Club Monaco, along with a matching blue hat.
The Duchess waved to crowds as she was seen walking to St Mary the Virgin Church in Frensham to attend the ceremony.
Mr van Straubenzee also performed duties for Meghan and Harry’s wedding earlier in May, where he ushered guests at the ceremony along with his brother, Thomas van Straubenzee.
For Meghan’s previous birthdays, she would often share snaps of her celebrations on her personal Instagram account, which has now been deleted.
In 2016, she jokingly posted a picture of herself with a puppy filter, and wrote: “Thank you for all the birthday love! Cheers to all of you for sticking with me on all things serious and silly. Let’s have another amazing year. P.S. #adoptdontshop.”
Last year, the Duchess celebrated her birthday in Africa with her then boyfriend and husband-to-be Prince Harry, as the pair spent the day in Botswana.
The Royal Family are known to have a deep connection to Africa, with even Prince William proposing to Kate in Kenya, which he later revealed was because the continent “completely settles me down”.
