The five-year-old son of Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William was hailed for “flying the flag for Christopher Robin chic”.
George is typically pictured wearing both long- and short-sleeved collared shirts, shorts and high socks in public, joining with the historical tradition among the young males in the Royal Family.
This comes after he was voted 49th best dressed in GQ magazine’s best-dressed men in Britain 2015, when the then two-year-old was already staking his name as a young fashion icon.
Ingrid Steward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, recently told US publication People: “It is considered very suburban for a little boy to be in long trousers when he is just a little boy.”
But at the Royal Wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry at Windsor Castle in May, he was seen wearing trousers for the first time – a breakout moment for the youngster.
Prince George, along with the other page boys on the day, sported a miniature version of the Blues and Royals coat that Harry and William wore to the wedding ceremony at St George’s Chapel.
They matched the coat and a pair of custom-made trousers by Saville Row tailors Dege & Skinner, featuring a red strip down the side from top to bottom.
George has been joined on the list by many other Royal Family members he is familiar with – mother Kate and aunt Meghan.
The Duchess of Cornwall was hailed for giving “millinery a good name” in a nod to the numerous hats she has been pictured wearing, while the Duchess of Sussex made the list following her wedding to Harry.
Last month, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle enjoyed a rare day out together when they attended the Ladies Singles’ Final at Wimbledon.
It showed their differing fashion styles – Meghan wore a blue and white striped shirt from Ralph Lauren and wide-leg cream leggings, while Kate opted for a white-patterned dress.
The Queen is the oldest honouree on the list, with Tatler praising her as “the ultimate power dresser”, highlighting her fondness for “bright block colours” and floral prints.
In the documentary ‘The Queen at 90’ from 2016, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, provided insight into her mother-in-law’s choice of clothing for public occasions.
She said: “She needs to stand out for people to be able to say ‘I saw the Queen.’
“Don’t forget that when she turns up somewhere, the crowds are two, three, four, 10, 15 deep, and someone wants to be able to say they saw a bit of the Queen’s hat as she went past.”
Other notable names to make Tatler’s ‘Britain’s Best Dressed 2018’ list include Harry Styles, Stella McCartney, Amal Clooney and Jerry Hall.
