The Duke of Sussex said royal fans should “feel sorry” for the 71-year-old in comments seen by Express.co.uk in an explosive new biography about the prince.

His heartwarming comments, where he even declared his love for his stepmother, prove Harry has forgiven Camilla for her affair with Prince Charles while he was married to Princess Diana, who died in a tragic car crash in Paris in 1997.

He said: “To be honest, she’s always been very close to me and William.

“She’s not a wicked stepmother. Look at the position she’s coming into. Don’t feel sorry for me and William, feel sorry for her.

“She’s wonderful woman and she’s made our father very, very happy which is the most important thing. William and I love her to bits.”

Although Charles and Camilla have been married for 13 years, the couple have a long and complicated history.

After meeting when they were young, they both married other people – Camilla married Andrew Parker-Bowles, a retired military officer, but the pair divorced in 2005.

Charles married Princess Diana, the mother of Prince William and Prince Harry.

After Diana’s death, the couple brought their relationship out in the open, with Camilla attending a hunt with Charles and his two sons.

And in 2004, both William and Harry were told Camilla was to become their stepmother.

Charles, 69, finally married Camilla in 2005, in a low key ceremony at Windsor Guildhall and the duchess was given an engagement ring that once belonged to his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

In Harry: Conversations with the Prince, journalist Angela Levin wrote: “It couldn’t have been easy for Prince Charles to tell his sons that the woman blamed for the break-up of his marriage to their mother was going to become their stepmother, but in the autumn of 2004 that’s what he did.

“Harry accepted that Camilla had been in his father’s life for a very long time and had grown to like her.

“Since he was a small child he has been able to see things from other people’s points of view.”
