Aside from their shared military careers, these candid archive images prove the pair have an uncanny royal resemblance.

From the same piercing blue eyes, strong jawline and brow, slender nose and thin lips, it was clear from a very young age that Harry was a carbon copy of his grandfather.

Like the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Harry, 33, has also served in the armed forces, boasting 10 years of service, including two tours of Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the Queen’s husband joined the Navy from school in 1939 aged 18 and went on to serve with distinction in the Mediterranean.

He also saw battle in the Second World War and many royal insiders tipped him to go all the way in the senior service and become its chief or First Sea Lord.

Here the Duke of Edinburgh is pictured as an officer in the Royal Navy in December, 1946, while his grandson is seen before meeting Bahamas Governor General Arthur Folkes in March 2012, in Nassau.

Pictured with a steely stare and the perfect jawline, it’s hard not to notice the striking resemblances between the pair.

And in a third image, Prince Philip is pictured while serving in the Royal Navy during a visit to Melbourne in Australia, in August 1945, while Prince Harry is seen at the opening of the Field of Remembrance, at Westminster Abbey, in November, 2016.

Both men sport long beards, with Prince Philip growing his out at sea during his time in the Navy in his younger years.

While Prince Harry first grew a beard at the end of 2013 when he undertook a Walking With The Wounded charity trek to the South Pole.

He kept his facial hair on his return to Britain, with The Sunday Express revealing that his grandmother, the Queen, was not impressed.

A royal insider said at the time: “The rest of the family liked it and were taking the micky, especially his cousin Zara who dubbed him ‘Prince Hairy’.

“But the Queen soon let her displeasure be known. She doesn’t mind royal men growing beards when they are away in the Armed Forces or out in the wilds like Harry was in the Antarctic, but she expects them to be clean-shaven when they get home.”

Despite this, Prince Harry has continued to don whiskers in recent years and even sported his ginger facial hair during his Royal Wedding to Meghan Markle.

It is believed the Queen granted the duke special permission to keep his beard while wearing uniform as he married Meghan in May.
