Asked whether she was profiting from Meghan’s royal title, she said: “I’ve worked in media most of my life and in broadcasting. So because my sister is suddenly royal isn’t grounds for me to stop doing all that.

“Let’s face it, we all have to survive. Money makes the world go round. So if you want to call that cashing in, that’s fine. But no one in media would refuse a pay cheque for talking about the royals and as a family, we’re not subject to royal protocol.”

She told presenters Kate Garraway and Charlotte Hawkins: “For someone to say, ‘Oh you shouldn’t take any money, you should turn down a pay cheque’, go tell your boss you don’t want a pay cheque for interviewing me because that’s cashing in.”

Samantha, who has previously worked as a writer and actress is expected to appear on the next Celebrity Big Brother series.

Their father Thomas has also been frozen out by the Duchess after giving a series of media interviews about her.

Yesterday, Samantha pleaded with Meghan, 36, to get in touch with their 74-year-old father, a retired television lighting director.

Mr Markle pulled out of accompanying Meghan down the aisle in May, after saying he had undergone heart surgery.

But the hospital where he claimed he had the operation has since said nobody of that name was admitted.

Earlier, he was exposed for taking money for staged paparazzi pictures as Kensington Palace complained he was being harassed by photographers.

Samantha said: “They were texting for a while but all of that ceased and so I think he is very worried.

“He feels very isolated, as any father would.

“We only get one shot in life that we know of, so it’s important to reconcile and resolve differences where we can and I think we’ve all been reaching out, and I think it’s her [Meghan’s] time to reach back.”

Harry and Meghan and their staff have refused to discuss the Markle family.
