The Duchess of Sussex will have specific rules and traditions to follow if she becomes pregnant.

One rule is that the gender of the baby is not revealed to the world until it is born. Royal baby enthusiasts could only speculate for months on whether Prince Louis was going to be a prince or a princess.

The same goes for all three of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s children as it is standard for members of the Royal Family.

One rule that may affect Meghan is that pregnant Royals are encouraged to keep travelling abroad to a minimum.

California-born Meghan will be discouraged from going across the pond as pregnant royals are encouraged to stay as close to home as possible so emergency help is always on hand.

Royal women typically conduct engagements up until the end of their pregnancy and don’t go on “maternity leave” until after the baby is born.

However, Kate did travel to Norway whilst pregnant with Prince Louis, but she did keep her travelling down to a minimum.

When the Duchess of Sussex gives birth she will have an army of doctors, midwives and anaesthetists with her just as Kate did.

The Duchess of Cambridge had three midwives during Princess Charlotte’s birth.

Royal protocol dictates that the Queen is the first to know about the birth of the baby before anyone else.

Prince Harry will most likely follow in his brother Prince William’s footsteps and tell the Queen via encrypted telephone before Meghan can break the news across the pond.

One tradition that was broken by Princess Diana was that the baby is typically born at home.

The People’s Princess had both William and Harry in the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London, breaking a long-standing royal tradition.

The Duchess of Cambridge followed suit and gave birth to her three children in the same wing at the same hospital.

This could be seen as the start of a new Royal tradition and Meghan could opt to have her baby in the same wing.

One thing Meghan will have to miss out on is a baby shower.

A royal expert has said that a royal baby shower is unheard of for members of the Royal Family.

Victoria Arbiter said that while the royals are “very wealthy, a lavish baby shower would be seen as highly inappropriate. There’s nothing they can’t go out and buy themselves.”

Since the newlyweds tied the knot on May 19, the world has been waiting and watching for a Royal baby announcement.

The couple has never hidden the fact that they are both eager to start a family.

Speaking in their first interview as an engaged couple, Harry was asked if a baby was on the cards.

He replied: “One step at a time. Hopefully we’ll start a family in the near future.”

At an event in Northern Ireland in March, Meghan and Harry met a husband-wife entrepreneur duo who showed the couple products from their babywear line.

Observing the goodies, Meghan exclaimed: “I’m sure at some point we’ll need the whole lot!
