Meghan is well known for her charitable mindset and prior to becoming a member of the Royal Family she served as a World Vision Canada ambassador as well as a women’s advocate to the UN.

Meghan as the new Duchess of Sussex was required to drop her political activism due to the Royal Family remaining impartial in politics and world affairs.

Although Meghan ’s social media accounts have all been deleted, an unearthed throwback video from 2014 shows the then Suits actress stepping up to take on the challenge.

A casual looking Meghan, dressed in shorts and a button-down shirt, looked a world away from the strict protocol of the Royal family, which has a strict dress code for members at all times.

She joined golfing star Rory McIlroy for the challenge, who nominated the actress to take the challenge on.

In the video, Meghan can be seen yelping as Rory poured ice cold water from a cooler.

The Duchess of Sussex is then seen laughing before she clears her face of soaked hair.

Speaking later to FOCUS, Meghan said: “Rory McIlroy and I are friends, and when he nominated me I told him I couldn’t do the challenge because I was traveling and in New York.

“He let me know he was also in New York and that he could do the video with me. We had a blast and shot it on the roof of my best friend’s apartment. It is so important to raise awareness for ALS, and the buzz our video generated hopefully helped make that happen.”

Mr McIlroy nominated Meghan for the challenge after he was seen taking it on with Tiger Woods, and also nominated England footballer Wayne Rooney and former US president George W Bush.

Meghan then nominated her close friend Serena Williams to take on the challenge – who she has maintained a close friendship with over the years.

The Duchess was even spotted cheering on Ms Williams from the royal box at Wimbledon over the weekend, alongside her sister in law, The Duchess of Cambridge.

Meghan and Prince Harry requested that wedding gifts be made in the form of donations to a selection of personally selected charities.

It saw Meghan have the opportunity to carry on her philanthropic work.

At the time Kensington Palace tweeted: “Prince Harry & Ms. Meghan Markle are incredibly grateful for the goodwill they have received since their engagement and have asked that anyone who might wish to mark the occasion of their wedding considers giving to charity, instead of sending a gift,” the palace said in a statement on Twitter.

“The couple have personally chosen seven charities which represent a range of issues that they are passionate about, including sport for social change, women’s empowerment, conservation, the environment, homelessness, HIV and the Armed Forces.”
