Sunday in the Cambridge household will undoubtedly be spent with cake, balloons and blowing out candles as the future king is thrown a small party to celebrate turning five by his doting mother, Kate.
And although Prince George’s birthday will be celebrated in private, it is expected that the palace will release a portrait of Kate and William’s firstborn to mark the occasion.
Last year, royal fans were treated to a cute photo of a beaming George to mark his fourth birthday.
From royal tours to his first steps, the world has watched on as the young prince has grown up right before our eyes.
WHEN IS PRINCE GEORGE’S BIRTHDAY?
And it hasn’t been any different for other members of the royal family, who have been raised in the spotlight.
Curly-haired and chubby cheeked, a young Queen is the spitting image of her great-granddaughter Princess Charlotte at George’s age.
At the age of five, a then-Princess Elizabeth shared the same cheeky grin and eye shape as Charlotte, 3.
And even though there aren’t many photos of Princess Diana as a youngster, this picture taken in 1965 shows George’s grandmother when she was just four-years-old.
With her hair swept to the side and her round eyes, it’s hard not to notice the uncanny connection between Diana and her granddaughter Charlotte.
One adorable picture shows a six-year-old Diana playing with her brother Charles Spencer in the grounds of Park House at Sandringham House, which mirrors the adorable sibling relationship both George and Charlotte share.
George’s uncle Harry has also been pictured at five-years-old.
And the ginger prince proved he was always destined to serve in the Army from a young age as the snap shows him posing in a tank wearing a hard hat.
Meanwhile, Prince George’s dad William is also pictured at the age of five with his late mother, Diana, as they accompanied Prince Harry on his first day at school at Mrs Mynor’s nursery in September 1987.
And just like George, he is sporting a pair of shorts and a collared polo T-shirt.
Adorable pictures have also emerged of Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew’s daughters, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice at a similar age to George.
One cute snap shows Beatrice tucking into candy floss as she enjoyed a day out at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in a adorable equestrian outfit.
And in another adorable picture, the sisters wear matching peacoats as they hold the hands of their mother, the Duchess of York, at the premier of A Little Princess in February 1996.
George’s fifth birthday is being celebrated with the release of a new £5 coin.
The Royal Mint has issued a commemorative coin to mark the occasion, featuring the legend of St George and the Dragon and the year “2018”.
The coin comes in a special presentation pack entitled The Progress of a Prince.
George was last seen at the christening of his baby brother Prince Louis at the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace on July 9, and in official photos marking the royal baptism.
