Today’s celebration marked 100 years of the RAF, which saw the largest concentration of military aircraft take to the skies above London.
100 jets, helicopters and aircraft from across a range of different eras of RAF history roared over central London, including WWII aircraft such as the Spitfire and Lancaster bombers.
The display also featured the Puma, Chinook, Juno and Jupiter helicopters.
The Dacre brooc has become a symbol of gratitude for the work of the British Air Force and is the highest award a female cadet can be granted in the RAF.
The Duchess of Sussex was joined by her husband Prince Harry and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for the service.
She wore a stunning black dress designed by Dior, which featured a bateau neckline.
But unlike other Royal Family members, including Kate, who wore the large Dacre brooch on a pastel blue Alexander McQueen dress, Meghan was not wearing a token.
The Dacre brooch, which is adorned with jewels, has been awarded to female cadets since 1982.
It is awarded to members of the Royal Family who hold an honorary position within the RAF’s bases or squadrons, an honor which Meghan has not been awarded yet.
Kate could be seen wearing Air Cadets Dacre brooch – the highest award any female cadet can achieve – as she arrived at Westminster Abbey for the service.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman said that even though the Duchess of Cambridge is not a cadet, she was presented with the brooch as a gift following her appointment as Honorary Air Commandant of the organisation.
The mother-of-three was last seen wearing the statement piece in 2016, when the Air Cadets marked their 75th anniversary.
It is expected that former actress Meghan Markle will receive an honour, as her husband Prince Harry served in the British Armed Forced for 10 years.
Other female members of the family that wore their broochs included Sophie Wessex, the Duchess of Cambridge, the Duchess of Cornwall and Princess Anne.
Sophie Countess of Wessex is Honorary Air Commodore of HMS Daring, 5th Battalion, the Rifles (5 Rifles) and RAF Wittering.
The Duchess of Cornwall, who is Honorary Air Commodore of RAF Halton, also wore her RAF brooch.
Princess Anne donned a gold version in a nod to her role as Honorary Air Commodore of RAF Brize Norton.
