The stunning revelation was made by a train boss from GTR, who revealed the monarch has a stark aversion to the seat layout on new train models.
The head of state often uses the train to travel to her country estate in Sandringham, Norfolk.
And for her two-hour journey from London Liverpool Street to Kings Lynn, she chooses one of Govia’s older models.
During a heated meeting between GTR’s passenger services director Stuart Cheshire and angry commuters in Hitching, Herts, he said: “The Queen doesn’t like the new trains – she prefers the old ones to take her to Kings Lynn”.
He then added the monarch favours the seating layout on the 365 version rather than the 387 model.
GTR has been heavily criticised for releasing the biggest rail timetable change Britain has seen in decades in May.
The rail shake-up saw many trains cancelled and more moved around in the new schedule with criticisms over drivers’ training.
The GTR franchise consists of Southern, Thameslink, Great Northern and Gatwick Express and covers much of the British railway service.
But Transport Secretary Christ Grayling warned the company faces having its routes stripped and given to a new operator if services won’t improve by July 15.
However, he seemed positive GTR would smoothly implement a new timetable for commuters on time, saying the company had “assured me personally that they were ready”.
A Govia Thameslink spokesman said: “We are re-planning how we use our trains and train crew to introduce a new interim timetable… which will operate from July 15.”
A Department for Transport spokesman also commented on the shambolic timetable shake-up, saying: “We will investigate whether GTR have breached their contracts and we won’t hesitate to take tough action against them if they are found negligent.”
