Prince Louis has only been seen in public once, on the day of his birth when he left the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital with parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

He was too young to attend recent royal events, missing his uncle Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle and Trooping the Colour for his great-grandmother The Queen’s birthday.

Kensington Palace announced the date of the youngest prince’s christening last month, stating it will take place on Monday, July 9th.

The choice of who will be godparents to Prince Louis is yet to be revealed, however other details surrounding the baptism are known.

Royal christenings follow strictly adhered to traditions, dating from the 1800s.

Every royal baby wears the same gown, a replica of one worn by the daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Princess Victoria during her baptism.

The original gown was worn by royal babies at their christenings for years until it was deemed too fragile and an exact replica made.

This means Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will have all worn the same gown at their baptisms.

Another similarity for all royal babies is the use of the Lily Font in which they are baptised.

Commissioned in 1840 by Queen Victoria for Princess Victoria, the font is silver gilt and is decorated with three winged cherubs and water lilies.

Within the font will be another traditional factor of royal baptisms, water from the River Jordan in the Middle East is to be used to christen Prince Louis.

Every royal baptism features water from the River Jordan as it is the river in which Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist according to the bible.

Given Louis’ father, Prince William was recently in Jordan, he may have brought some of the holy water home with him for the ceremony.

How old is Prince Louis of Cambridge?

Prince Louis Arthur Charles was born on April 23 2018, which makes him two months old.

At the time of his christening on July 9, he will be two months and two weeks old.

This is younger than his brother George was when he was christened, as he was three months old at the time.

Princess Charlotte was also three months old when she was baptised, however, the ceremony for her baptism was held at St Magdalene Church in Sandringham, unlike her brothers.

The guest list will be kept small for the ceremony at The Chapel Royal in the grounds of St James’s Palace, with only close family and friends in attendance.

The Queen will be attending her great grandson’s christening, having recovered from feeling under the weather earlier this month.

Prince Harry and Meghan will also be among the invited, witnessing Prince Louis’ baptism before leaving to visit Ireland on their first engagement abroad as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
