The Duchess of Sussex dazzled in a summery yellow dress designed by US designer Brandon Maxwell, who has also worked as Lady Gaga’s stylist in the past.

Meghan mirrored Princess Diana today in her outfit choice, who wore a more casual yellow collared button-up silk dress, with tie details at the neck on her visit to the Alice Springs, Australia with Prince Charles in 1983.

A fashion expert this week told Express.co.uk the way Meghan plays with fashion conventions is reminiscent of Diana.

Vanessa Collen, founder of luxury independent fashion boutique, Collen & Clare, said: “We can all look to Meghan to flex the rules a little and push boundaries in the same way that Diana did.

“Meghan combines her femininity and openness to make the world admire her.”

Prince Harry and Meghan, who tied the knot in May this year, attended the reception for young people around the Commonwealth in London’s Marlborough House.

The Duchess wore simple earrings and had her hair in a bun for the event, which was hosted by Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland.

In April, Prince Harry, 33, was made the Commonwealth Youth Ambassador by his grandmother, the Queen.

The reception was a chance for the royal pair to hear more about how the “exceptional” youngsters – aged 18 to 29 – have been working together to help shape the future.

The programme, which began five years ago, honours individuals who have made a difference to their community, including saving lives, tackling violence against women and mental health advocacy.

The event gathered the leaders of the Commonwealth youth networks and the newly-elected Commonwealth Youth Council Executive.

Meghan and Harry will meet its participants to hear about their ideas, including people from New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and Tonga, before they tour the region this autumn.
