Meghan captured the attention of the public when she was thrust into the spotlight back in November when her engagement to Prince Harry was announced.

Since that day, she has appeared alongside her husband for various royal outings and has always turned out looking smart, sophisticated and with a great sense of style.

Before the wedding, she had a casual, chic look, emphasised by the Canadian brands she chose to wear, including Erdem and independent brand Line The Label.

Since becoming a royal, her style has definitely developed and she now favours nude tailoring, opting for designer dresses and Philip Treacy hats at many of the events she has attended.

Claudia Joseph, author of How to Dress Like a Princess, told Express.co.uk: “Before she met Harry, Meghan was a high-profile actress and was used to walking the red carpet.

“She therefore had a good eye for fashion and an extensive wardrobe. Since she has been dating Harry she has abandoned her more revealing outfits in order to fit into the Royal family.

“Like the Duchess of Cambridge, she mixes High Street fashion with designer labels and recycles them accordingly.

“She has worn the Victoria Beckham jumper from her engagement photographs on more than one occasion.”

But how much does it cost to dress a duchess?

According to royal commentator Katie Nicholl, Meghan’s royal wardrobe since November has cost a staggering £758,000 ($1 million).

The most expensive item was of course her gorgeous wedding dress custom made by Clare Waight Keller at Givenchy, which is estimated to have cost £387,000.

Followed by her Stella McCartney evening gown which Meghan wore for the evening reception and is believed to have cost around £120,000.

The Royal Family are understood to have covered the cost of Meghan’s two wedding dresses, which are the two most expensive pieces in her wardrobe to date.

For her first royal appearance after the wedding – Prince Charles’ 70th birthday at Buckingham Palace – Meghan chose a simple, but demure sheer blush dress by British designer Goat, costing £590.

And for her debut appearance at the Trooping the Colour, Meghan went for a a bespoke Caroline Herrera top and skirt estimated to have cost £3,000 and a Philip Treacy hat costing £1,185.

Meghan wore a chic custom-made Givenchy cape dress on her away day with the Queen last month, which is believed to have come in at around £13,700 and a printed Oscar de la Renta maxi she wore for Princess Diana’s niece’s wedding cost £4,500.

Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Today: “Meghan is now an ambassador for the royal family. Look at the publicity she has brought in the run-up to the wedding. I’d argue that’s worth every penny.”

In terms of who picks up the bill for Meghan’s working royal wardrobe, this falls to Prince Charles.

Jess Ilse editorial assistant at royal central said: “Prince Charles pays the expenses for his children and their families out of the Duchy of Cornwall surplus.

“Meghan likely would’ve paid for her own wardrobe before her wedding. She has her own money from her acting career.”

Like sister-in-law Kate, Meghan is likely to recycle and re-wear the designer items she has already been seen in.

Ms Nicholl said: “I’m quite sure we will see Meghan step out of the outfits that she has worn before. When you are buying that sort of couture with those sorts of price tags it would be criminal not to re-wear them.”
