The former rugby star opened up on his new life as a father-of-two and how his girls are getting along.

Speaking about how his eldest daughter took the arrival of the two-week old sister, he told Hello Magazine: “She is very happy to a big sister, she is happy about that”.

He also explained Zara and him, who have been married since 2011, didn’t spoilt Mia with gifts amid the arrival of Lena, a trick often used by parents to help new siblings adjust.

But presents didn’t fail to come as well wishers wlecomed the latest addition to the Royal Family – Lena is the Queen’s seventh greatgrandchild.

Mr Tindall said: “We are lucky that people that have sent Lena a present have also thought about Mia, so she is getting stuff to open as well.”

Last week, just 12 days after the birth of Lena, Princess Anne’s daughter and her husband were pictured together with their eldest daughter while attending the Celtic Manor Resort’s Celebrity Cup gold tournament, a golf tournament.

And later on the same night, the couple headed to the Celebrity Cup Gala dinner.

When asked how they were coping with a newborn in the house, Mike said: “We’re doing alright at the moment.

“We’ve had a couple of bad nights with her but otherwise she has started off strong.”

Zara and Mike welcomed to the world their second daughter, weighing 9lbs 3oz, on June 18.

Buckingham Palace announced the birth in a statement where the Queen was said to be “delighted” at the news.

The Palace said: “Mrs Michael Tindall was safely delivered of a baby girl on 18th June, at Stroud Maternity Unit. Mr Tindall was present at the birth.

“The weight of the baby was 9lbs 3oz.

“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Princess Royal, Captain Mark Phillips and Mike’s parents, Mr Philip and Mrs Linda Tindall, have been informed and are delighted with the news.

“The baby’s name will be confirmed in due course.

“This baby is the second child for Zara and Mike, the fourth grandchild for The Princess Royal and the seventh great-grandchild for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.”

The name of the baby, who is the 19th in line to the throne, was announced nine days later in a second statement issued by the couple.

It read: “Zara and Mike Tindall have named their baby daughter Lena Elizabeth.”

Mike took to Twitter the day later to clarify how his new daughter’s peculiar name should be pronounced.

He wrote to his thousands of followers: “Pronounced like Lay-na.”

And he explained the reason behind the delay of their announcement simply was “they didn’t have a name ready”.

He added: “We put together a list of names that we liked and that’s why it took a little bit of time to get to one that we both agreed on and liked.”
