Meghan was pictured midway through throwing a mini football on day one of the Audi Polo Challenge in Ascot, Berkshire
And eagle-eyed royal fans noticed the similarity as they celebrated what would have been Princess Diana’s 57th birthday on Sunday.
While wishing Diana happy birthday, a fan shared Meghan’s picture side-by–side with one of Diana playing bowls during a trip to Indonesia in 1989 on Instagram.
The pair look strikingly similar and Meghan even wore a gorgeous summer dress like Diana.
The 36-year-old, like Diana, is considered a royal style icon and the Shoshanna gingham shirt dress sold out shortly after the pictures emerged.
And this is not the first time there have been a noticeable similarity between Meghan and the late Princess Diana.
Last week the Duchess of Sussex channelled the Princess as she appeared with the Queen for Her Majesty’s Young Leaders Awards.
Meghan wore a powder pink Prada dress, with a 50s twist, that had large buttons and a belt, a style often favoured by Diana.
Meanwhile, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams has suggested Meghan will follow Diana’s example when it comes to her royal duties.
Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “Meghan’s feminist credentials have been obvious since her successful protest against a sexist advertisement at the age of 11 and she has emphasised them on the Palace website.
“At the Royal Foundation Forum she stressed her support for the MeToo and the Time’s Up movements and that she couldn’t wait to ‘hit the ground running’.
“It will be fascinating to see which patronages she chooses and how many, it is worth remembering that Diana cut her involvement to six in 1996.
“I suspect Meghan will choose fewer than some other members of the Royal Family but be more hands on, as Diana undoubtedly was.”
Over the weekend Meghan also proved she is a “natural” with children after the Duchess of Sussex was captured in a sweet exchange with a little girl at the polo.
Meghan was snapped as she crouched down to put herself at the same height as a little girl and held her hands as they engaged in deep conversation.
The heart-warming exchange prompted royal fans to predict Meghan will be a “wonderful mother” to her own future children after she was pictured in deep conversation with the youngster.
Meghan and Isabella’s heart-warming exchange was shared on Instagram royal account ‘@Meghanandherprince’ where fans gushed over how “gracious” the duchess is with children.
One Instagram user said: “I love how she is with children. They’ll make great parents.”
Another commented: “I love how she is always bending down to meet the child’s eye level. Says a lot about her!”
“Meghan will make a wonderful mother when the time comes,” one also remarked.
