The Duke of Cambridge’s four-day visit has been made at the request of the government but is “non political”, according to Kensington Palace.

His communications secretary, Jason Knauf, said it would enable “a spotlight to be brought to bear on the people of the region: their cultures, their young people, their aspirations, and their experiences”.

Father-of-three of William will leave behind Kate and the children, including two-month-old Prince Louis, for his rammed excursion which starts in Jordan.

When is Prince William’s visit to Jordan, Israel and Palestine?

Kensington Palace said His Royal Highness will visit “Jordan, Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories” from Sunday, June 24 to Thursday, June 28.

The wording of this statement is likely to raise some eyebrows despite William being a neutral figure.

The 36-year-old’s visit will coincide with the 70th anniversary of Israel’s independence and the establishment of the State of Israel.

Who will Prince William meet during his visit?

The Duke of Cambridge will meet with several major leaders during his short time away.

He will first travel to Jordan on June 24 where he will be greeted by HRH Crown Prince Al-Hussein Bin Abdullah II upon arrival.

The heir to the throne will then meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the morning of Tuesday, June 26 – although it is not known if he will meet with his wife Sara.

Mrs Netanyahu has been charged with fraud over allegations she used 359,000 shekels, equivalent to £77,000, of state funds for private catering services.

She denies any wrong-doing.

Prince William will also meet with President Reuvin Rivlin.

Other Israeli stops include a tour of the historic city of Jaffa where His Royal Highness will engage with young people affiliated with the charities Equaliser and the Peres Centre for Peace.

In Palestine, the duke will embark on an as-of-yet secret visit on June 27 before a meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas at his office on the same day.

He will also address the concerns of Palestinian refugee communities and a visit to the West Bank.

Have other members of the Royal Family visited Israel or Palestine?

Both Prince Charles and Prince Philip have made trips to the region although these have been in an unofficial capacity.

The Prince of Wales attended the funerals of Israeli statesmen Yitzhak Rabin in 1995 and Shimon Peres in 2016.

In 1994, the Duke of Edinburgh attended a ceremony in Yad Vashemm, Jerusalem, in honour of his mother Princess Alice who sheltered Jewish refugees during World War Two.
