The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will christen Prince Louis on Monday, July 9 at The Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace in London.
Kensington Palace announced the date of the christening of the youngest Prince of Cambridge on Wednesday.
The palace said: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are pleased to announce that the christening of Prince Louis will take place on Monday 9th July at The Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace, London.
“Prince Louise will be christened by The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby.”
Prince Louis is fifth in line to the throne and great-grandchild of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.
Who is invited?
The royal couple have previously kept christenings to a “small crowd”, Jess Ilse, editorial assistant at Royal Central told Express.co.uk.
Only 22 guests were invited to Prince George’s christening in 2013, with only senior royals, four members of the Middleton family and the seven godparents and their partners invited to the ceremony, and just 30 were selected to attend Charlotte’s.
So it is likely they will invite a similar number to the christening of Prince Louis, who is being baptised in the same church as Prince George.
However the Queen, grandad Prince Charles, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall are likely to be in attendance, along with Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton.
Pippa Middleton and brother James will probably attend again this year, along with Pippa’s husband James Matthews.
And siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte will most probably be at the small, intimate christening to witness their baby brother being baptised.
Prince Harry has not been pictured in the official portraits taken at the christenings, so it is uncertain if he will there with wife Meghan.
The godparents of Prince Louis will be announced on the morning of his baptism, but the duke and duchess are likely to turn to close friends and confidantes when selecting the godparents.
William and Kate have previously chosen trusted members of their inner circle and younger family members, such as Zara Tindall to fill the spiritual role.
Charlotte has five godparents, whereas George has seven, including Julia Samuel, a close friend of Diana, Princess of Wales, the couple’s former private secretary Jamie Loather-Pinkerton and Zara Tindall, who recently had her second child.
Princess Charlotte’s godparents included Kate’s school friend Sophie Carter and Laura Fellowes – the daughter of one of Diana’s sisters.
According to bookmakers Ladbrokes, the duke’s private secretary, Miguel Head, is a front-runner with odds of 2/1.
He is leaving his position in July but he has been described as a “valued adviser during an important period in His Royal Highness’s life.”
Meghan’s odds at being selected are 14/1 and the move would be a gesture of welcoming the Duchess of Sussex into the fold of the family.
However as the couple have not know the duchess for very long, this might not be a possibility.
