While the 97-year-old attended the Royal Wedding, Prince Philip missed out on the Trooping the Colour celebrations on June 9, after recovering from the operation on April 4.
But, after he was seen riding a horse and carriage on the Monday after Father’s Day weekend – and made a surprise return to the spotlight at the Cartier Cup at Windsor Polo Club – Philip enjoyed a day out in the sunshine.
Philip again looked to be enjoying his morning ride, donning a beige flat-cap and blue outer-jacket as he steered the horses around the private woodland area.
Philip – who started carriage racing aged 50 – looked engrossed as he and the horse’s trainer manoeuvered through Home Park, Windsor Castle.
The Duke of Edinburgh was instrumental in helping to establish carriage driving and took part in the sport well into his 80s – but gave up competitions some years ago.
And after more than 22,000 solo public appearances during a 66-year period, it seems that Philip now uses his hobby to enjoy the great outdoors and relax.
While Philip looking content as he galloped about the private grounds, the Queen was attending Royal Ascot for a day of horse racing.
The 92-year-old looked radiant in yellow alongside Princess Anne as they arrived to Ascot’s royal box in the traditional Ascot Landaus carriage from Windsor Castle.
The Queen invited the newly-married Duke and Duchess of Sussex to join her in the royal box this week at the Berkshire race course.
She was seen beaming as she enjoyed her day out, after she became a great-grandmother for the seventh time yesterday.
Her Majesty’s granddaughter Zara Tindall gave birth to a girl on Tuesday, with her husband, former England rugby-player Mike Tindall.
Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “Mrs Michael Tindall was safely delivered of a baby girl on 18th June, at Stroud Maternity Unit. Mr Tindall was present at the birth.
“The weight of the baby was 9lbs 3oz.
“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Princess Royal, Captain Mark Philips and Mike’s parents, Mr Philip and Mrs Linda Tindall, have been informed and are delighted with the news.
“The baby’s name will be confirmed in due course.
“This baby is the second child for Zara and Mike, the fourth grandchild for The Princess Royal and the seventh great-grandchild for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.”
