Prince Louis will be around three-months old by the time he is christened at the Chapel Royal in St James’s Palace on Monday July, 9.
Kate and Prince William’s decision to christen their two sons at the royal chapel, where Princess Diana’s coffin lay before her funeral, comes despite daughter Princess Charlotte being baptised at the Church of St Mary Magdalene in Sandringham.
When asked the reason for Kate and William’s decision, a Kensington Palace spokeswoman told Express.co.uk the choice was a “personal preference”.
Both Prince George and Princess Charlotte had small and intimate christenings, with around 20 to 30 guests in attendance.
The Chapel Royal where Prince Louis will be christened is said to be a special place for parents, Kate and William.
It is where the Duchess received communion before her Royal Wedding back in April 2011 and where the coffin of William’s late mother Princess Diana lay before her funeral in 1997.
Royal expert, Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk the choice showed Prince William’s desire to have an “enduring link” to his late mother, Princess Diana.
He said: “This is a very personal decision.
“Diana’s body rested in the Chapel Royal before the altar for a week after she died.
“As with George who was also christened at the Chapel Royal. “
But the royal expert insisted the church where Princess Charlotte was christened is also close to the hearts of the royal couple.
He added: “Charlotte was christened at the Church of St Mary Magdalene where Diana was christened there is an enduring link with the mother William so adored and who is his and Harry’s inspiration.”
