Winnipeg’s international airport was evacuated this morning due to what an official is calling a “security incident.”

It remains unclear what exactly prompted the evacuation.

It’s estimated there are about 300 people waiting outside the airport.

Tyler MacAfee, spokesperson for Winnipeg Richardson International Airport, confirmed a “security incident” and said the airport was evacuated around 7 a.m. local time.

There is a permanent RCMP detachment at the airport and officers are investigating the incident and trying to assess what the “next steps” will be, MacAfee said.

He said there are flight delays affecting both arrivals and departures, but he could not provide details.
